Remakes were a human group (sometimes considered a species and called Homo refactus) invented by Citizen Sharp of the City of the Saved. They were created using remembrance tanks and moulded into the forms of fictional characters, such as Sherlock Holmes. (PROSE: Of the City of the Saved...) The vast majority of Remakes were programmed to keep a respectful distance from their creators (that is, the people who originally created the character they were modelled upon), although some exceptions existed. For instance, Mr Sherlock (a anime-inspired Sherlock Holmes) routinely went on holiday with his creator, Mr Fujiama, (PROSE: The Baker Street Dozen) and Kelly Hale's version of Holmes wrote stories with her.
