Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes was a 19th century detective and friend of John Watson. He originated in stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (though he had been based upon a real person), but became a cultural icon and had many more iterations, often differing dramatically from the original. Remakes of many of these iterations were made in the City of the Saved, where they formed the Great Detective Agency.

Biography[]

19th century Holmes(es)[]

Holmes had a brother named Mycroft. (PROSE: The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter)

In 1881, Holmes and John Watson investigated a double murder, and discovered that they were conducted by a miner turned cabbie named Jefferson Hope, who was seeking revenge for the death of his lover. Hope died from a brain aneurysm before going to trial. (PROSE: A Study in Scarlet)

Erasing Sherlock[]

As well as his brother Mycroft, Holmes (whose full name was Edmund Sherlock Holmes) had a sister, Genevieve Holmes.

In 1882 and 1883, a murder investigation involved Holmes with the intrigues of the Celestis. (PROSE: Erasing Sherlock) A Remake of this Holmes was made, and wrote stories with his creator. (PROSE: More Tales of the City)

All-Consuming Fire[]

In 1887, Holmes and Watson helped the Seventh Doctor battle the Old One known as Azathoth. (PROSE: All-Consuming Fire) Later in 1887, Holmes and Watson travelled to Cheldon Bonniface, 2010 to attend the wedding of Bernice Summerfield and Jason Kane, uncovering the schemes of the Master during the festivities. (PROSE: Happy Endings)

Other events[]

Having completed a second run of Holmes stories for publication in The Strand Magazine, Doyle got tired of writing stories about the detective, and wrote a story in which a villain, Moriarty, caused Holmes' death. This failed to stick. (COMIC: Character Assassin)[additional sources needed]

Sherlock Holmes died of lung cancer while tending his bees in Sussex. At least, that was how he (or some of him) remembered it. (PROSE: Sussex)

Remakes[]

Multiple versions of Holmes were created in the City of the Saved, many of them based on film and television versions of him. Many of these Holmes iterations joined together to establish the Great Detective Agency. (PROSE: Of the City of the Saved...)
