The TARDIS was a renegade timeship occupied by a variety of tenants, most consistently the Doctor. (TV: An Unearthly Child) Despite being pre-hominid-sentient, it had a definite consciousness of its own. (PROSE: Laura Tobin)

Shortly before the War, the TARDIS's sister Lolita attempted to convince it that they should join forces and that she should become humaniform. However, the TARDIS had other plans. (PROSE: Toy Story) Though it was never particularly loyal to the Great Houses, the TARDIS was nonetheless concerned for the Homeworld's welfare, so by channelling its complex forced-matter functions into Compassion's Remote receiver, the TARDIS remodelled Compassion's biodata and transformed her into the first and only 102-form timeship. (PROSE: The Shadows of Avalon, Laura Tobin)

Soon after, the TARDIS was torn apart after being caught in a dimensional rift between Earth and Avalon (PROSE: The Shadows of Avalon) The film Mujun: The Ghost Kingdom featured an analogue of Compassion whose mother was said to have been killed by her sister, implying that Lolita could have been responsible for the TARDIS's "death". (PROSE: Brookhaven's Ghost Kingdom: The Six Central Characters)

The TARDIS survived and restored itself by latching onto I.M. Foreman's bottle universe, though the Faction Paradox biodata virus inside mutated it into the Edifice. The Doctor reverted this by draining its power. (PROSE: The Ancestor Cell)
